Population Estimates

There are too many missing factors missing without an enormous amount of research at this time to guess at populations before the late 1800&rsquo s. Sliammon populations had already begun to be decimated by disease, which destroyed entire villages and family lines while taking the very young and the very elderly first. There are also other factors missing for later data including non-status and transfers so this is not a true representation of people with Sliammon ancestry.

Late 1800&rsquo s – 1888 people (official census data says 317 Sliammon people but it was summer and most people were out on the land for harvesting purposes).

Early 1900’ s 300

Mid 1900’ s 400

Late 1900’ s 700

Present 2003 908

Estimated 2007 1071 (based on Stats Canada 18% growth over 4 years)

Estimated 2020 1758 (almost double the present population)
