Strategic Plan

The vision for Sliammon Forestry is to promote and maintain employment and career opportunities that will create jobs and self-employment opportunities through cooperation and coordination of Sliammon community organizations. Benefits of all Sliammon First Nation based forestry must accrue first to the community, then to our Powell River neighbors.

Sliammon Forestry Sector Goals

The following goals are taken from the author’s experience with Sliammon, from the workshops and surveys that provided information on many projects, and finally from members of the Forest Resources Advisory Group.

Sliammon Foresty Sector Goals are:

• To promote and maintain employment and career opportunities that may arise out of the forest sector for all Sliammon members.
• This will require all Sliammon organizations to cooperate and coordinate their collective efforts in all aspects of forest resource development, as it affects the Sliammon Nation.
• Given this strength then all financial benefits from Sliammon forestry activities must accrue to the Sliammon community, first to support and sustain a reasonable lifestyle for all Sliammon members.
• This means that Sliammon forests must be managed by Sliammon organizations sensitive to the values of Sliammon culture and tradition.
