Skills and Capacity Assessment

The Skills and Capacity Assessment Report is one of the five elements within a much broader Forest Economic Opportunity Study all part of a Forestry Treaty Related Measure.

The study considered all of the data and information that was available from previous Sliammon reports and surveys.

Due to increased mechanization and other forest industry changes, many former Sliammon forest workers have been displaced. As Sliammon forest tenures are leveraged through the treaty process, there has been a clear message from membership that Sliammon forests are to be managed by Sliammon people.

It was recognized that an assessment of Sliammon forestry was an important step towards the successful managment of future forestry opportunities. The assessment comes with a number of recommendations as to where Sliammon needs to increase forest capacity.
