The Joint Fish Committee
The purpose of this Treaty Related Measure (TRM) is to “test-drive” proposed fisheries and fisheries management processes and:
to determine if the proposed Treaty provisions will be adequate to deliver on Tla’amin’s rights and interests in fisheries and fisheries management.
The JFC will be comprised of one member from Canada, one member from British Columbia, and one member from Sliammon. Additional respresentatives will be brought forward as needed
The Sliammon First Nation people have maintained their right to be involved in fisheries managment and decision making in the waters of our territory.
This TRM will assist Tla’amin in studying its interests and requirements in the area of fisheries management. To be responsible managers, Sliammon will need to set out its own policies and procedures, including Fisheries Operational Guidelines. Fisheries Operational Guidelines will spell out how Sliammon conducts its fishery on an annual basis. These will be developed with input from leadership and our membership. The TRM also provides for the study and refinement of fisheries and aquaculture management-related processes that will model those that are to be established on the Effective Date.
